I think WheelDancer, a blogger from Minnesota, put it best when he said:
What is Freedom anyway? The idea that consumption and consumerism are cornerstones to 'conservative' culture is something that I've touched on before. Why is it that it seems that conservatives are so opposed to conservation??? WheelDancer continues:
Seems the RNC fear machine is working over time...
Thank god we are safe from the Earth Activist Training Permaculture Demonstration Bus since there will be less shopping if people start thinking sustainability.
What is it about the conservative mentality that dictates if it's out of their mainstream it's wrong needs to be stopped? Isn't the foundation of freedom letting folks you don't agree with have their say? In fact, isn't the whole fucking point of our democracy letting diverse perspectives have the talking stick?
Click here to read more of WheelDancer's eloquent take this unfortunate and disturbing incident. It also seems like conservatism is less and less compatible with the U.S. Constitution every day. The Patriot Act and the interpretation of 'unlawful combatant' come to mind. This is a big reason that I am supporting the Democratic ticket in which both candidates have taught Constitutional Law.
Also, please see the comments on this post. I would like to apologize to WheelDancer for my prior unfair use and lifting of his content.

Gee, I wonder if this would have happened in Denver during the DNC?
I would hope that Denver and the security surrounding the Democratic convention would be more tolerant than the the twin cities, but one can't be certain.
While I agree with the political point you're making, I disagree with the method by which this post appeared on your blog.
There are pretty hard and fast copyright rules regarding how much of a published work (and a website or blog is a published work) can be used without the permission of the writer.
And when it comes to a blog, lifting thoughts also means lifting traffic and readership. Paraphrasing and sending readers to Wheel's blog would be a better approach.
Don't wanna get in your face, but I'm just sayin....
Old (and wise) Bag- Thank you for pointing out my mistake. While I thought linking to the original post, 'What is Freedom anyway?', within the blockquote would be sufficient, it is not.

I had tried for quite a while, but perhapse not long and hard enough, to come up with a good wording of my own to bring light to the travesty of the PermiBus incident. I should not have used WheelDancer's eloquent blog post in its entirety. I understand 100% that you are not trying to be confrentational about this, and I hope that you and WheelDancer will both understand that I did not intend to lift his traffic and readership, but instead the opposite.
I try to do a good job of following not only blogging ethics but also copyright rules; I have redone my previous post. Ironically, I've had a similar instance happen to me.
Thanks for the thoughtful response, and thanks for taking my initial comment in the tone it was intended.
FWIW, I followed your links to the EBay seller and dropped her a line letting her know that word is getting around the blogosphere about her lifting your pics for ads...that bicycle bloggers are customers that are hers to lose.
Hope it's a great riding weekend in your neck-o-the-woods!
The whole thing about the conservative agenda is lack of responsibility. I am honored by your kind words for my efforts and am impressed by how you stepped up to the plate to correct your mistake and I thank you and accept your apology.
Our fate as humans is to make mistakes. What separates the class from the scum is how we recover from our errors. You have taken responsibility as well as corrective action and it doesn't get any classier than that.
Thanks,
Mark
