So Matt O had to go and get me started this morning... Then in my BlogLines feeds I come across this on CopenhagenCycleChic:
While I don't know if it's quite PC to wear a shirt that says: "But Bristol Palin told me she was on the Pill?!", I do think the irony surrounding her VP canidate Palin's staunch abstinance message is astounding. You think that Bush and Dick have made a mockery of this country to rest of the world (hell the mockery even extends within our borders), just think what will happen if McSame and Plain Pain get elected...
On a more serious note, here are just a few of the links I came across at lunch today that really show what the Republican Presidential Ticket represents:
http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/08/06/does-mccain-have-a-problem-with-women/ I'll only list some of the McCain quotes from the article:
... one he told at a 1998 Washington dinner: "Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because Janet Reno is her father."
... Cindy playfully chided John about his thinning hair. The Arizona Senator's response?
McCain's face reddened, and he responded, "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you c**t."
... greatest hits from McCain's past regarding his attitudes toward women, including his wife-beating quip to ABC's Jake Tapper, and his infamous rape joke delivered before the National League of Cities and Towns:
"Did you hear the one about the woman who is attacked on the street by a gorilla, beaten senseless, raped repeatedly and left to die? When she finally regains consciousness and tries to speak, her doctor leans over to hear her sign contently and to feebly ask,'Where is that marvelous ape?'"
...
The other recent piece of legislation that speaks to McCain's priorities, was the defeated Senate measure designed to ensure equal pay in the workplace. McCain skipped the vote, but let it be known he wouldn't have given his support even if he had been in D.C.:
"I'm all in favor of pay equity for women, but this kind of legislation is typical of what's being proposed by my friends on the other side of the aisle, opens us up to lawsuits from all kinds of problems."Never mind that the bill itself came about as a result of one of the many option-of-last-resort lawsuits filed each year from women who are systematically underpaid for doing precisely the same jobs as men. McCain's "less regulation" ethos should be viewed in light of the recent failures of free market self-regulation. Energy (Enron), and Banking (sub-prime mortgage crisis) come to mind.
A joke here or there or a single vote along the way may doesn't really prove that a person has a problem with the opposite sex. Down that path lies a rigidly PC society that we should all reject. But when you step back and look at the patterns evident in John McCain's behavior, it makes you wonder how this man has the audacity to hope that Senator Clinton's loyal female following will flock to his side.

Add to this the mounting evidence that McCain’s TV commercials assailing Obama’s tax policy contain serious distortions, if not out-right lies.
On Aug. 8, FactCheck.org, published this report on a spate of new McCain TV spots on Obama and taxes.
Read it here: www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/more_tax_deceptions.html
That report followed one in July that raised similar concerns about the truthfulness of the McCain attacks on Obama. Read it here: www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/the_32000_question.html
And today The Washington Post published this blistering editorial that comes as close as any Beltway publication can to using the word “lie” to describe McCain’s criticism of Obama’s tax policies. Read it here:
www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/30/AR2008083001681.html
The Post editorial specifically mentions a side-by-side analysis of McCain and Obama tax policies by the non-partisan Tax Policy Center. Here is the link to the center’s updated comparison posted on Aug. 28: www.taxpolicycenter.org/publications/url.cfm?ID=411750
Both McCain and Obama would cuts taxes, but Obama’s tax cuts would be targeted to the middle class and partially offset by higher taxes on the wealthy (those earning more than $250,000).

Read moreIs the McCain-Palin Campaign Violating Operational Security?
When Sarah Palin was announced as John McCain's Vice Presidential pick, I found it a little disturbing that she told the public that her oldest son, Track, would be deploying to Iraq on September 11. Generally, disclosing the date of deployment is against Operational Security (OPSEC) and illegal.
Calling around to a couple of Public Affairs Officers (PAO) who would be handling the flow of information about Track and his unit, VoteVets.org found out that, first, Track is not deploying on September 11. He may be part of a deployment ceremony that day, before going to Kuwait, though one Public Affairs Officer said that any details of the upcoming ceremony hadn't been made public yet by the military.
Governor Palin may have spilled the beans on that one, while showing she doesn't know the difference between a soldier deploying to Iraq vs. one preparing to deploy to Iraq. And while not illegal, if she really did believe that's when he's deploying to Iraq, then she didn't know enough to keep quiet about that to keep from violating OPSEC -- something a potential Commander in Chief should know.
But, more disturbing, and definitely in violation of security, are an explosion of stories that say specifically where in Iraq Track is deploying to, which have been dutifully eaten up by right wing websites, and reprinted. I will not reprint it here, because I would only be compounding the issue. But, unfortunately, it is very easy to find on the web at this point.

Read moreST. PAUL, Minn. — On behalf of the media, I would like to say we are sorry.
On behalf of the elite media, I would like to say we are very sorry.
We have asked questions this week that we should never have asked.
We have asked pathetic questions like: Who is Sarah Palin? What is her record? Where does she stand on the issues? And is she is qualified to be a heartbeat away from the presidency?
We have asked mean questions like: How well did John McCain know her before he selected her? How well did his campaign vet her? And was she his first choice?
Bad questions. Bad media. Bad.
It is not our job to ask questions. Or it shouldn’t be. To hear from the pols at the Republican National Convention this week, our job is to endorse and support the decisions of the pols.

OK, ok, ok, Gary; we know you hate the GOP ticket. How about talking about whom you are going to vote for and why....with FACTS. If there are reasons why you want to vote for the Dems; I'd love to see/hear the policies that they are for with some meat to them. Let's hear why you want to vote for someone and not why you do not want to vote for someone.
Rick
Well, let's see. While I think this will be best addressed in a blog post of it's own in the near future, I'll give these tidbits. Obama's Iraq policy compared to McCain's (you'll need to scroll all the way to the bottom thanks to Mehul), Obama's tax policy, his policies on women's issues such as equal wages and abortion, his energy and environmental policies, and tying into those policies, last yet still meaningful to me, is his pledge for cycling funding.
I've posted on my blog previously and before the ridiculous VP pick that I'm probably going to vote for Obama. I've asked tonight why you or I should vote for McCain, care to step up? I'm dying to hear it.
Lastly McCain's speach was just introduced and I was completely taken by the western drawl of the narator of his introduction; it was certainly worthy of any Maverick. I need to go watch Top Gun now. g'nite.
Rick- I've have to appologize to you for the above comment and going off the deep end for the most part last night. I was a little stressed out not only about politics, but about some tragic news that Sadie and I just found out about.
Don't worry, I'll be back to my usual jovial self after the election, if not before. ;)
Will you up for some jamming and MTB sometime this weekend?
